Export Markets

KONREF exports to more than 40 countries. Top destinations include India, Iraq and the USA — with active growth across EU steel and Gulf cement markets.

Over 40 countries — and growing.

KONREF has been exporting refractories since the 1970s. That track record, combined with our position as a non-China magnesia source, makes us increasingly relevant for buyers who need supply chain transparency or who are reducing China dependence in their refractory procurement.

Our strongest export segments are iron and steel (where magnesia-carbon bricks are the primary product), cement (magnesia-spinel for rotary kiln lining), and raw magnesia (DBM) for other refractory producers who need a consistent non-Chinese raw material source.

Where KONREF refractories are used.

Middle East

Iraq, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait and neighbouring countries. Long-established relationships with steel mills and cement plants across the region. A core market served continuously since the 1970s.

South Asia

India — our largest single export destination. A significant volume of shaped bricks and raw DBM to India's steel and refractory sector. Pakistan and Bangladesh also served.

Americas

USA — a growing market as American steel producers seek non-China refractory supply options. Latin America: Brazil, Mexico and Andean countries with steel and cement industries.

Europe

EU steel mills and cement producers — an increasingly important market as European buyers formalise supply chain due diligence under CSRD and related regulation. Served through direct shipment and via distributors.

Africa

North Africa: Egypt, Morocco, Algeria — cement and steel sectors. Sub-Saharan Africa: growing cement and industrial markets, served through freight forwarding partners.

CIS & Eurasia

Central Asian and Caucasian markets with active steel and cement industries. Geographic proximity from Konya via land and Black Sea routes.

The de-risking opportunity for global buyers.

China currently dominates global magnesia production. That concentration creates supply risk — price volatility, export restrictions, and supply chain opacity that increasingly conflicts with corporate and regulatory due diligence requirements.

  • Turkish provenance — documented origin from our own reserves, traceable to the mine.
  • EU CBAM compliance — Türkiye's customs union relationship with the EU, and Turkish documentation standards, facilitate CBAM compliance for EU importers.
  • US supply chain requirements — Turkish-origin refractory products outside the scope of China-specific trade measures affecting magnesia imports.
  • ESG due diligence — supply chain transparency and documented social and environmental compliance available on request.
