Refractory production is energy-intensive. Magnesite mining has a land and dust footprint. These are facts, not problems to obscure. Our approach to sustainability starts with being honest about what our operations involve — and then systematically reducing the impact where we can.

KONREF is a manufacturing company, not a services business. Our sustainability commitments are operational: they concern how we run the mine, the rotary kiln, the pressing hall and the laboratory — not communication strategies or offset purchases.

An honest starting point.

We are at an early stage in our formal sustainability journey. We hold ISO 9001 and apply its management discipline across the quality dimension of our operations. Extending an equivalent structured approach to environmental and social performance is a goal we are actively working toward.

  • Chrome-free products — our magnesia-spinel range is chrome-free as standard, reducing downstream hazardous waste for cement and lime customers.
  • Process optimisation — continuous kiln efficiency monitoring to reduce specific energy consumption per tonne of DBM.
  • Dust management — bag filter systems on kiln and pressing-hall dust collection, in compliance with Turkish environmental regulations.
  • Waste management — production scrap and rejects are classified and disposed of under applicable Turkish waste regulations.
